Packaging film tailored to reduce greening and sprouting of potatoes

NNZ has performed testing of greening and sprouting of potatoes in 1 kg film bags, using macro perforated polypropylene film and laser perforated polypropylene film.
The number of laser perforations were tailored to allow for optimum concentrations of oxygen (3-5%) and carbondioxide (10-15%) inside the package.
Compared to unpacked potatoes or potatoes packed in macroperforated film, this approach prevented greening and sprouting upon storage for 10 days at 20 degrees Celsius:
